Why Hydrogen Sulphide Scavenger Selection Matters
Hydrogen sulphide removal requirements vary widely between applications. Concentration, phase behaviour, temperature, residence time and downstream compatibility all influence both scavenger performance and operational outcomes.
In practice, scavenger selection is influenced not only by reaction efficiency, but also by factors such as:
- Formation of reaction by-products and solids
- Potential for scaling or deposition
- Impact on pH and downstream processes
- Storage, handling and logistics constraints
- Regulatory and disposal considerations
As a result, multiple scavenger chemistries are routinely required across different installations, even within the same operating environment.

Syncide® Triazine and Non-Amine H2S Scavenger Range
The Syncide range is structured around four distinct chemical molecules. Each compound addresses different operational requirements, phase conditions and downstream compatibility profiles, enabling scavenger selection to be driven by process needs rather than product availability.
Syncide® HHT
MEA Triazine (monoethanolamine-derived)
Active concentration: 40% to 78%
The Syncide® HHT range is based on monoethanolamine (MEA) triazine chemistry, the most widely used H₂S scavenger chemistry in oil and gas operations. MEA triazines offer a well-understood performance profile, broad application experience and established dosage control across gas and liquid phase treatment.
The range is supplied in concentrations from 40% to 78%, allowing selection to be matched to injection system design, logistics constraints and dosage requirements.
Typical use: Gas and liquid phase H₂S treatment where established chemistry, operational familiarity and a wide base of field experience are required.
Syncide® TZ
MMA Triazine (monomethylamine-derived)
Active concentration: 40% to 90%
Syncide® TZ products are based on monomethylamine-derived (MMA) triazine chemistry. Monomethylamine triazines offer higher achievable active concentrations than MEA-based equivalents, with the Syncide® TZ range available up to 90% active.
Higher active concentrations may be considered where logistics constraints, limited storage capacity or injection volume restrictions make a more concentrated product operationally advantageous.
Typical use: Applications where higher active concentration is a selection driver, or where MMA-derived triazine chemistry is preferred over MEA-based alternatives for process or by-product reasons.
Syncide® HG
Non-amine based scavenger (EDDM-derived)
Syncide® HG is a non-amine hydrogen sulphide scavenger based on EDDM chemistry. It provides an H₂S scavenging capability without the amine functionality present in triazine-based products.
It is typically selected where amine-based scavengers are unsuitable due to downstream amine system compatibility constraints, specific by-product behaviour requirements, or other process considerations that preclude the use of amine-derived chemistries.
Typical use: Applications where downstream amine compatibility is a constraint, or where non-amine by-product profiles are preferred for process or disposal reasons.
Syncide® MBO
Oxazolidine-based scavenger (alternative pathway)
Oxazolidine-based products were originally used for their biocide properties, but they have become more widely applied recently for scavenging H₂S.
Oxazolidine H₂S scavengers offer an oil-soluble alternative to hexahydrotriazine water-based scavengers, and they may mitigate some of their drawbacks.
While the same reactants are used for oxazolidine (an aldehyde and primary amine) as are used for hexahydrotriazines, the synthesis conditions are strictly anhydrous and involve the elimination of water to yield the five-membered ring heterocyclic species.
Oxazolidine-based scavengers are readily converted into the corresponding hexahydro-triazine and very likely owe a large degree of their scavenger activity to this hydrolytic conversion. Due to this conversion, oxazolidines may not be true “non-triazine” alternatives, but they are still very useful H₂S scavengers.
Typical use: Applications where triazine by-product behaviour presents constraints, or where an alternative reaction pathway and by-product profile are operationally preferred.

Why Choose Synthite as Your H2S Scavenger Supplier?
Synthite combines UK-based manufacturing, backward integration into key raw materials, a broad range of scavenger chemistries and global supply capability. This combination addresses the technical, operational and supply risks that matter in hydrogen sulphide treatment.
Integrated Manufacturing & Control
UK Manufacture at a COMAH-Regulated Site
All Syncide® products are manufactured at Synthite’s COMAH upper-tier site in Mold. For customers buying hazardous chemical process inputs, this provides real assurance: the site is subject to ongoing independent scrutiny of its safety management, process controls and emergency planning.
Backward Integrated into Formaldehyde Feedstock
Synthite is the UK’s only independent formaldehyde producer, and manufactures formaldehyde at the same site as Syncide® products. This direct control over the key raw material for triazine-based scavengers reduces supply chain risk, supports consistent product quality and provides long-term supply security that is not available to a scavenger manufacturer sourcing feedstock from a third party.
Flexible Supply and Application Support
Multiple Chemistries, One Supplier
The Syncide® range covers MEA triazine, MMA triazine, non-amine and oxazolidine chemistries. This breadth means Synthite can support operators who require different scavenger chemistries across different points in the same production system, without the complexity of managing multiple chemical suppliers for closely related products.
Concentration Range Supporting Logistics Optimisation
Syncide® products are available across a concentration range from 40% to 90% active, depending on chemistry family. Higher concentration products reduce the volume that needs to be transported, stored and injected, a practical consideration for remote or logistically constrained installations where minimising chemical throughput is operationally important.
Quality, Compliance & Global Supply
Global Supply Capability from a UK Base
Syncide® products are supplied internationally in bulk tankers, IBCs and drums from Synthite’s Mold manufacturing site. Established export logistics, hazardous chemical documentation and international transport compliance support reliable supply to customers operating across multiple regions from a single UK manufacturing source.
ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 Certified Quality Systems
Manufacturing is managed under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified systems, with full batch-level quality documentation available as standard. For customers with audit or documentation requirements associated with their own quality management systems, this provides a consistent and auditable supply record from a regulated UK manufacturing source.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Syncide® range is a portfolio of hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) scavengers manufactured by Synthite. It includes multiple chemistry types designed to support different process conditions, operational constraints, and regulatory requirements across gas, liquid, and mixed-phase systems.
Hydrogen sulphide scavenger performance depends on factors such as H₂S concentration, phase behaviour, temperature, residence time, and downstream compatibility. No single scavenger chemistry performs optimally across all applications, which is why selection must be matched to specific operating conditions.
The Syncide® range includes both established triazine chemistries and non-amine alternatives to reflect real-world operating requirements. This allows scavenger selection to be based on process conditions, by-product behaviour, and downstream impacts rather than product branding.
All Syncide® hydrogen sulphide scavengers are manufactured in the UK at Synthite’s COMAH-regulated site in Mold. UK-based manufacturing provides control over batch production, quality assurance, and supply continuity.
Scavenger performance is influenced by reaction efficiency as well as practical considerations such as by-product and solids formation, potential for scaling or deposition, impact on pH, downstream process compatibility, storage and handling constraints, and regulatory or disposal requirements.
No single chemistry performs best in every application. Triazine-based products are the most established, but are water-based and introduce amine functionality that isn’t always compatible downstream. Non-amine chemistries avoid that constraint. Oil-soluble chemistries suit applications where an aqueous scavenger isn’t practical, though their performance can still depend on water being present in the system. Matching chemistry to actual process conditions and downstream compatibility, rather than defaulting to one product, is what determines reliable field performance.
Syncide® HG is a non-amine hydrogen sulphide scavenger based on (ethylenedioxy)dimethanol (EDDM). It is typically selected where amine-based scavengers are not suitable due to downstream compatibility requirements, by-product behaviour, or specific process constraints.
The Syncide® HHT range consists of monoethanolamine (MEA) triazine-based hydrogen sulphide scavengers supplied in concentrations from 40% to 78%. MEA triazines are widely used in gas and liquid phase treatment where established performance and dosage control are required.
Syncide® TZ products are monomethylamine-derived triazine hydrogen sulphide scavengers supplied in concentrations from 40% to 90%. Higher active concentrations may be selected where logistics, storage capacity, or injection volumes influence product choice.
Syncide® MBO products are based on monoisopropanolamine chemistry and supplied at 100% concentration.
Synthite manufactures hydrogen sulphide scavengers at a COMAH-regulated UK site and is backward integrated into formaldehyde manufacture, a key raw material for triazine-based scavengers. This integration supports consistent quality, raw material availability, and long-term supply security.
